Mod dress

I was ready for a bit of a change from all the pleats and ruffles I've been doing, so I made a little mod dress.

View of the back

Little pleats galore in the back, and two little buttons. I think I like the back the best!

Traveling outfit with jacket

Here's the whole outfit with the jacket on. The jacket closes with a hook and eye between the buttons. The collar also looks good turned up.

The traveling dress

Here is the traveling dress finally finished. This is all one piece, believe it or not, and has three snap closures down the back.

Traveling outfit progress

The traveling dress in progress. This is taking a little longer than I expected but I'm pleased with how it looks now.

This will have buttons down the front and the jacket will go over it.

Posy in the champagne dress

Here's the dress on Posy.

Back of champagne dress

Here's the back: there is a single snap to which you can attach either the lace thing or the satin train. So Lottie will have options!

It's done! Here it is on the mannequin.

Champagne dress without the train. I need to fix the lace at the back of the skirt so it doesn't drag.

Champagne dress almost done

The champagne dress in progress

The champagne dress is in two parts like the peacock dress. I was trying to make it in one piece, but the satin is too bulky to gather two layers together at the waist.

Champagne dress basted

The champagne dress, coming together. The satin is not very drapey but still looks nice and fluid.

I will add add some lace to puff out the bustle back, like on the peacock dress.

Champagne dress materials

Materials for the champagne dress. I probably won't use all the different laces. Not sure about those gold balls--I was thinking of attaching them to the ends of the ropy decoration.

The wide lace I will use in the back to hold up the bustle, and trail a bit behind. I'd like to make a drapey, detachable train for the back.

Nightgown with lacy robe

The nightgown with the lace robe. The lace was surprisingly easy to handle; I basted it to ordinary tissue paper and sewed it on the machine.

Nightgown

A plain nightgown. This also looks nice tied at the waist.

Bodice closeup

A closeup look at the bodice. The neckline trim is crocheted. I tried it with the same lace as the wrist trim, but it looked too crowded and ruffly. The little "brooch" is a flat spacer bead, sewn on.

Back

Here you can see the back of the dress. I think a cascade of lace would look nice attached to the underskirt and coming out from under the top.

Almost done

Posy here is modeling the peacock dress in progress. I just need to put the last trimmings and the snaps on.

Skirt progress

Skirt of the peacock dress put together. The blue in the picture is lighter than it really is.

The lacy bunch in the back is for filling out the bustle shape of the bodice. I thought about making a little pillow like a real bustle roll but the lace works just as well and isn't so heavy. The top third of the skirt will be covered by the drape of the bodice.

Pieces of the peacock dress

Bodice pieces cut out and fray-checked, ready to sew together.

Traveling outfit

I think of this one as Lottie's traveling outfit. In antique white with black trim, a jacket over a short-sleeved dress with a gathered drape and two rows of pleats.
